What does EMDR therapy help with?
EMDR therapy is proven to be effective in treating a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)/ Anxiety and Panic Attacks/ Depression/ Phobias and Fears/ Grief and Complicated Bereavement/ Low Self-Esteem and Confidence Issues/ Stress from Medical Trauma or Surgery/ Relationship Issues Linked to Past Trauma.
How is EMDR different from other therapies?
EMDR is different because it works directly with how memories are stored in the brain. By using bilateral stimulation such as eye movements, taps, or sounds, EMDR helps the nervous system reprocess distressing memories, so they lose their emotional intensity. Research shows EMDR often works more quickly than traditional talk therapy for trauma and PTSD. People often notice shifts in how they feel and think within fewer sessions. In short: EMDR goes beyond talking — it helps the brain re-wire itself so you can live more fully in the present rather than being pulled back into the past.
What if I feel overwhelmed during a session?
You’ll learn grounding and calming strategies before we start. I’ll check in regularly, and you can pause at any time.
Is EMDR safe?
Yes. It’s a well-researched therapy recognised internationally. Some discomfort can arise as you process memories, but you’re always supported and in control.
What does EMDR feel like?
Many clients feel lighter, calmer, and clearer afterwards. Sometimes dreams or new insights appear between sessions — that’s a normal part of the healing process.
How is life coaching different from counselling?
Counselling helps with healing and processing emotions. Coaching is about creating action and future goals. Both can be powerful, and I offer an integrated approach if needed.
How many sessions do I need?
This varies — some people notice change after a few sessions, while complex trauma may take longer. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe for you. We can review your progress if longer-term therapy is required. I offer both short-term and long-term as well as open-ended counselling. Most sessions are weekly or fortnightly, which helps build momentum, enabling you to make gradual and steady progress toward your goals. Each session builds on the last, so keeping sessions frequent allows you to progress more quickly. We agree on a convenient time and day for each session with flexibility around appointments.
How do I know if I need life coaching or EMDR therapy?
Many clients begin with a sense of confusion or lack of direction, or they carry unprocessed pain around. I will talk to you to uncover what matters most and build a path forward, combining the right approach that works best for you.
What's the difference between online & in-person sessions?
Online and in-person therapy each have their distinct benefits and considerations. It's important to carefully consider which medium best suits your needs. You might enjoy or prefer being in a comfortable, private space in your own home, which makes attending therapy convenient if you can’t make it to my central London private therapy rooms. Research shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy.
What should I consider when opting for online therapy?
First, it's important to consider your technology and space. Are you confident in using your chosen technology to communicate? Do you have a reliable connection/signal, and do you have access to a safe space without the risk of being overheard or interrupted?
Second, it's important to consider if you are comfortable discussing your situation online. Are there any additional considerations or complexities that indicate you may be safer or more comfortable meeting in person?
Are in-person & online therapy sessions confidential?
Everything you discuss during our sessions is confidential. There are only two exceptions to this, where I am obliged to break confidentiality: if you disclose involvement in or knowledge of any criminal activities, or if there is a safeguarding issue, such as you or any adult related to you or your child could potentially be under threat of harm or abuse.
